I moved into the Logan studio with clear intentions. I set it up properly, ran practice shots, and did a portrait session for In Their Own Light.
Then I moved out.
Then I moved out.
A studio space on the Noblesville Creates campus became available while I was at Logan. At first, I wasn’t interested. I had just moved. I wasn’t looking to jump ship. I wanted to give the Logan studio a fair shake and not chase the next option just because it appeared.
But after sitting with it and thinking it through, the decision became obvious.
The move wasn’t reactive. It was deliberate.
Logan was a large space with plenty of natural light. It gave me room, but it also came with constraints I didn’t want to keep working around. Ambient window light was always part of the equation, and gaining full control would have meant forcing solutions into a space that wasn’t designed for flexibility or public access. I could have made it work, but it wasn’t the right long-term setup.
The Noblesville Creates studio offered better control and better public facing "exposure".
The new studio is smaller, but it’s fully configurable. I integrated the backdrop system directly into the Walker Display system instead of filling up the space with more gear. I solved the window light issue with blackout shades, removing ambient spill entirely. Light is now intentional and repeatable amd 100% on my terms.
Just as important, the space is always open and curated with my work on the walls. It lives on campus. People can walk by. People can step in. The studio functions as a working studio and a public-facing gallery at the same time, which aligns with how I want the work to exist.
Logan served its purpose. It clarified what I need from a studio and what I’m not willing to compromise on. The current space is built around those decisions from the start.
I’m settled now. The space is controlled, flexible, and visible.
